Track Report

Ryan said the track today was probably best skiing this year. He reports, "The Track was in excellent condition. Light powder freshly groomed, on top of a fairly solid base. Classic tracks look great. There were several skiers out enjoying a nice bluebird day."

Enjoy!

Track Report - Christmas Eve 2019

Conditions in Rexburg have been a little tough on skiing lately.  We did get approximately one inch of wet snow overnight, followed by rain and thawing temps most of the day today.  Fortunately we've got a good base and only a few bare spots in the classic tracks on the south-facing slopes.  The track hasn't been groomed since the new snow but is still in fairly good condition with only a handful of tracks and no big ruts.

Merry Christmas - see you on the trails!

Track Report

Elton from the Idaho Falls Ski Patrol said the track was a lot of fun today. Both the classic and skate tracks are pretty hard-packed and fast. So have fun, ski fast, and don't get too bruised up if you fall.

Track Report, and Please no Bikes or Walking/snowshoeing on Tracks

I just heard from Doug (10:45pm Friday). He's been busy! The report is below. Also, he noted that there was a fat biker on the track. PLEASE do not ride bikes on the skiing trails. The bikes leave deep, wide ruts that trip up skate skiers (literally) and collapse the classic tracks. With all the work our groomers put in to make this a great Nordic Ski course, we don't want to ruin that with bikes (or with people walking or snowshoeing; please not on the tracks).

Anyway, many thanks to Doug for his great work. Here's what he said:

I have been out on the course this evening hopefully making it great skiing tomorrow.  It worked up very well this evening with very little grass showing anywhere.  The classic track is good and most places the track is good.  There are a few areas where snow was so hard that the track setter would not go to depth.
The skate track is very good with a great base.  I had a fat biker on the course this evening and I could not catch him, so if you would encourage fat biker to go else where, we will be able to keep it up for skiers.

Track Report

I didn't ski today but I stopped by. The skate track is hanging on, although it looks hard-packed, rutted and icy. I saw that the groomer had gone by at least once, so there was a narrow tuned-up skate track. There's nothing to be done with the classic tracks until we get new snow. I could see bare patches from the parking lot.
Long story short, it's skiable but will be a challenge. I suggest using your rock skis.

Rental Information and Track Report

Rentals:

We've had some questions about the rentals. Here's the scoop from the City:

"We are planning on opening next Friday. On our website rexburg.org/rec there is information for the Teton Lakes Winter Park. We won't be open on the 21st and the 23rd, but we will be open on the 26th-28th."

The rentals are run by the City of Rexburg. We on this blog are not officially part of the City - just happy skiers who keep in touch with the groomers & the City Rec. Dept.

Track Report:

Skiing is excellent right now, especially for early December. The port-a-potty was delivered, so that's good news. Doug groomed late last night and things set up nicely. Have fun!

Grooming Report

Looks like skiing should be great! Randy sent this text this morning:

The Perimeter Class and Skate tracks are buffed out and as good as it gets. Doug will work on the Cloverleaf this afternoon or later.

Track Report

The skate track is nice and glidey, but has new snow on it and it can be hard to see where you're going. Parts of the skate track are narrow. Considering this is the first of the season, though, we're doing pretty well.

The classic track has been set, but because the snow is still shallow the walls of the classic track aren't always helpful. There are some almost-bare patches, so watch for that.

It's a little difficult at times to know where to go with the unfamiliar changes to the course this year - I got lost a couple of times.  Much of the course is still the same or very similar to our past course.

Our groomers will be working today's new snow into the base and tuning things up for us. Randy said he plans to work on it late tonight and/or early tomorrow morning.

The City will be getting the port-a-potty delivered soon. There are no signs out as of yet and the old map obviously isn't quite accurate anymore. Just go have fun exploring the new course and don't be surprised when you cross an extra bridge or two this year.
