Feb. 27 Monday morning

I found some keys on the bridge to the Cow Pasture. They’re clipped to one of the signs at the trailhead at the parking lot (north side of parking lot).

Things have been tuned up nicely. The skate track is beautiful corduroy and the classic tracks are holding up great. There are a few places where the wind has blown snow over the tracks, especially on the Cow Pasture.

Have fun!

February 25 Temple Grooming

Just got this update from Scott. Enjoy the trail by Temple!

Skate track groomed in the two fields by the temple. The lower field off pole line is out for the season as the plowed our access to get the hay stacks our. No classic as our track setter is having trouble

February 23, Thursday 10:30 pm

Jeff is grooming right now; he started around 9 pm (thank you, Jeff!). It will take 3-4 hours tonight to put the track back together after all the new snow and wind we’ve had. Jeff also took our chainsaw out to remove a large, downed tree on the track. Things should be skiable tomorrow, although probably soft until things set up. Have fun!

February 20, Monday 9am

Many thanks to Doug for his hard work this morning (and all season long). Here’s his report:

The track has been restored after the weekend snow.  Both tracks should be great skiing until the winds come.  Get out and enjoy

Feb. 17, morning

Just got this update (thank you so much, Doug) -

The track was tuned up this morning.  Smoothed up and made to look like before the wind.  Skating should be good.

The classic track was not too bad last night.  I skied  from home to my right and saw that the tracks were less than ideal. So this morning, I rebuilt the one side which may have been a mistake. It was so cold the snow was not setting. They will not hold up if they don’t set. I will watch and if they need resetting we can do that this evening.

Get out and ski the season will come to an abrupt end when Mother Nature decides she is tired of the cold and the golfers want their play ground back. We appreciate them letting us use it.

Wednesday Feb 15 10am

Doug has been working on the track all morning, and has run into some challenges. Here’s what I’ve heard so far:

Having one of those days, I am sitting in snow drift waiting for my neighbor to bring  a RZR to pull me out.  It will take a day or two to put the track back in shape but it is more ski worthy again.  Bounteous new snow and wind makes for challenging Grooming.  I will add a couple of pics.

The track will ski ok until we have time to tune it up and use the tines to level the surface.  One more note, with being stuck half the morning I did not get the cow pasture.  I will work on that later to day.

Tuesday Feb 14 noon - Temple Track

Just heard this update on the Temple Track:

From Steve (thank you, Steve!) who groomed -

I groomed this morning after last nights snow.  The Temple field has a perimeter skate track and classic track.  There is also a skate track in the middle of the perimeter track.  For anyone interested the Temple perimeter track is 1 mile.

I also rolled skate tracks in the middle field.

Then we had a mechanical question on the snowmobile so we stopped for now.

Friday, Feb 9th Evening

Just back from tuning up the skate track this evening.  The classic tracks remain in great shape, and with the cold temps should continue to ski well.

With Ryan's help we did some testing to figure out what settings would be optimal for setting the skate track with the Ginzu groomer.  I've had a sneaking suspicion for some time that trying to groom more quickly leads to a less compact track, and with snow temps in the single digits this is definitely true.  The ginzu blades do a wonderful job of refreshing the hard pack that results from lots of traffic, but one also has to be mindful of the overlap when making two passes with the groomer so as to minimize any mid-track hump.

Hopefully our time testing different grooming speeds and overlap widths will be noticeable over the weekend, and helpful in the future as we continue to make Teton Lakes a *great place to ski*™ 😉

Monday morning, Feb. 6

Thanks to Randy, who just finished tuning up the track (10:30am). The new snow should set up nicely in this warmer weather. Both skate and classic skiing will be great. Enjoy!

February 3, Friday 9am

Doug cleaned things up this morning and the track is beautiful! Doug, Randy and Jeff have all worked on it the past seven days. Doug reset the classic track today. The skate track is still great from Wednesday’s tune-up. Enjoy!
